Real-world men – a workshop for teens
February 24, 2016 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Story Planet is hosting a screening and discussion of 3 short films centred around powerful stories of alternate men in the community. The workshop is for boys in grades 7 to 12.
Omega Access (OA) is one of Movember Canada’s newest Men’s Health Partners. We are a non-profit media group dedicated to the idea that outstanding, real-world men can inspire a new generation to see masculinity as a spectrum and not a binary.
Our goal is to engage our audience in debunking outdated notions of masculinity by celebrating men with healthy lifestyles, alternative identities and productive passion.
Who is running this?
The organization is called Omega Access Media Group, which is funded by the Movember Foundation.
What is the purpose?
The organization is called Omega Access Media Group, which is funded by the Movember Foundation.
What is the purpose?
Our goal is to engage our audience in debunking outdated notions of masculinity by celebrating men with healthy lifestyles, alternative identities and productive passion. We are engaging our audience through videos.
How will this be of value to the boys?
We are hoping that the videos stimulate dialogue with their peers and within themselves about the various topics covered in the videos (healthy living, community, identity, inclusiveness, engagement)
How will the recordings be used?
The audio recordings will be used to how the videos shift, (or don’t shift) the perspectives of the boys. We will be having a dialogue based around a photo and word matching activity during the session. The whole session is led by Story Planet supreme volunteer and Omega Access facilitator, Josie and Story Planet’s Sean. The answers and reasoning behind the answers of the boys will be transcribed so that we understand the effectiveness of this project in shifting those perspectives. This is a key component of our project, and must be reported to Movember. We will not divulge any information about the identity of the participants.
The workshop is limited to 10 young men, to reserve a spot, email liz@sp004.dev.contextstaging.ca
